Musicale

STXSA Musicales are short themed recitals, with students from many different teachers and schools performing polished, memorized solos and/or chamber music. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to perform in a supportive, nurturing environment and share their music with others. Students, parents and teachers will enjoy hearing a variety of beautiful music performed on a variety of different instruments. A reception follows each musicale, with time to meet and greet the performers and enjoy delicious cookies!

Sign-ups are “first come, first serve”. We will accept as many students as time allows, so sign up early! The musicale might fill up before the deadline.

Guidelines:

Please note specific guidelines for each musicale. Each musicale is themed and will have different requirements.

Eligibility: Student’s teacher must be a current active Teacher Member of STXSA.

Arrival: Please arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the musicale start time for tuning and warming up. If you have a run-thru with a STXSA accompanist, please arrive in enough time to be unpacked, tuned, and ready at your assigned run-thru time, this could be 60 to 90 minutes before the musicale start time.

Length: Each musicale will last approximately one hour, followed by a pot-luck reception.

Music selection: Music may be chosen from the Suzuki literature or outside the literature. Some musicales may include music that goes with the event theme. Solos must be memorized. Ensembles do not have to be memorized. All pieces must be approved by the student’s teacher before registering.

Accompaniment: It is expected that all solo pieces will be performed with accompaniment (with the exception of guitar, harp, and piano solos). Piano accompaniment or a harmony part played by another melody instrument are both acceptable accompaniment options. Pieces originally written without accompaniment may be performed unaccompanied. Ensembles do not require accompaniment.

Fees: Entry fee for all Musicales except the Ribbon Festival Musicale are $25  for STXSA Family Members and $40 for non-members. An ensemble pays the same fee as one soloist. (For example, one string quartet of STXSA Family Member students would pay only one $25 entry fee.)

Dress: Formal dress means a dressy dress or skirt and blouse, and dress shoes for girls. Boys, a collared dress shirt and tie, dress pants, and dress shoes. No jeans, t-shirts, shorts, skorts, flip-flops, sandals, crocs, sneakers, etc. High heels are not recommended.

Reception: Any finger-food will be appropriate (requiring no silverware/utensils to eat it). Cookies, cheese and crackers, cut vegetables, cupcakes, etc. Please bring your food on a serving plate, ready to serve. Beverages, cups, plates, napkins will be provided.

Volunteers: You can support STXSA by volunteering to help with the reception, bring beverages, paper goods, set-up, clean-up, photography, accompanying, etc. Tell us how you can help on your registration form. Thank you!
